The essential guide to refrigeration systems and support at TF Solutions

Refrigeration runs on reliability. There’s no room for error in our industry – you need to know you can trust the systems and equipment you’re working with.

We know the products we stock inside and out, and only provide our customers with brands they can rely on. For any project, we can be an extension of your team, with the expertise to tackle the challenges you’re facing.

To help those new to the industry, or new to working with TF Solutions, better understand the kind of support you can expect from us, we’ve listed a range of systems and products – as well as a handful of top brands – stocked at TF Solutions.

A guide to refrigeration systems and capital equipment at TF Solutions

Anything you may need for your next fridge project, we stock. From capital equipment to ancillaries, you can source your entire specification here.

Our refrigeration range is largely for the light commercial sector, including hospitality, food process, food storage, local grocery stores & butchers.

These are some of the refrigeration systems and equipment we can support you with.

Cold rooms

These industrial-scale refrigerated spaces are critical to keep businesses running, from the hospitality sector to pharmaceutical.

For a full cold room refrigeration system, there’s a lot to consider – panel thickness, floor insulation, and door sealing are only the start. The condensing unit comes with its own requirements; it must be sized to the load, sited somewhere serviceable, and compliant with local noise restrictions.

And compliance, more generally, adds another layer of complexity for professionals. Cold rooms are food-safety critical, and subject to HACCP planning, FSA guidance, and HSE requirements. On top of that, F-Gas rules limit which refrigerants you can use. With UK building regs tightening, energy efficiency and carbon footprint are now front and centre in system design.

We can help you navigate all of this, even on the most complex install, so you can experience a smoother project and keep your business moving forward.

Cellar Coolers

Cellar coolers systems are dedicated split systems designed specifically for the brewery market. The evaporators have a brewery specification 6 fins per inch evaporator coils & electronic controller fitted on the front for easy reach. The condensing units are low-noise, suitable for residential areas.

These systems are also used widely in mortuaries and florists alike, in fact, these can be used on chiller coldrooms because they have a minimum setpoint of 4°C.

Monobloc

A more compact cooling solution for businesses like pubs and wine cellars, these systems often need to be retrofitted into older buildings – and the limited space can throw up different challenges.

Cellar coolers systems are usually split systems; we can offer a self-contained system commonly known as a monoblock which makes them suitable for retrofitting into these awkward spaces, and limits noise. For cellar coolers, temperature stability is more important than extreme cooling, and energy efficiency is generally straightforward.

Like cold rooms, however, regulatory compliance remains critical for commercial installations, particularly where food hygiene standards apply. We can help you find a solution that ticks all the boxes – for spec, compliance, and budget.

Condensing units

Condensing units are the engine of the refrigeration system. They can be either air-cooled or water-cooled – the former are more common in the UK, though water-cooled units tend to be the better choice for high heat applications.

Depending on the product, these units can create a substantial amount of noise; in urban areas, it may be a requirement to choose a model built with noise reduction in mind. Other features include variable-speed fans, or capacity control for efficiency; whatever your customer needs, we can help you identify the best product for it.

Evaporators

The evaporator is the cooling interface; it may be ceiling-mounted or wall-mounted, single or dual discharge and include drip trays and defrost heaters.

In the UK, high humidity can increase frost build-up, so systems are usually designed with electric or hot-gas defrost, and sometimes off-cycle defrost in smaller higher temperature chill rooms. You need to consider airflow design to prevent cold spots, while fin spacing and coil design are chosen according to humidity and product type.

Custom builds

If off-the-shelf isn’t going to cut it for your project, we can provide a bespoke build system with our TF Build service.

When your brief doesn’t fit the standard packaged system scope, our technical team can produce tailor made engineering solutions for all applications. Such as oil separators, oil management systems, condenser fan speed control, inverter drives, etc. Helping you with spec, delivery, and after sales support for a full service, no matter the project.

Trusted refrigeration brands we work with: J&E Hall, Güntner, Copeland, and more

Fridge products and systems are costly; your customer relies on you to make the right choice for them, and the best way to guarantee performance and reliability is to purchase from a brand you trust.

We stock industry-leading refrigeration manufacturers, so you never have to worry. And with over 70 equipment lines, 500+ ancillaries, and 100+ compressor lines, you don’t need to go anywhere else.

These are just a handful of the brands we work with.

J&E Hall International

Few names will be more familiar to refrigeration professionals than UK-based J&E Hall. With over 125 years’ experience developing refrigeration technologies, they’re long established as one of the world’s leading cooling solutions providers.

They specialise in industrial refrigeration and screw compressor technology, and their condensing units are consistently high-quality and energy efficient.

Güntner

This respected German manufacturer has spent over 90 years perfecting heat transfer systems and exchange technology in Europe. Manufacturers of specialist heat exchange systems – condensers, gas coolers, evaporators – their products are known for quality, reliability and used in everything from food retail to process cooling.

Copeland (formerly Emerson)

Copeland is one of the industry’s most trusted brands, and one of the biggest compressor brands worldwide. Their scroll and semi-hermetic compressors are industry standards, with a wide range of options for HFCs, HFO blends, and CO₂.

Danfoss

A huge global supplier that manufactures controls, valves, electronic expansion valves, pressure switches, and inverter drives. If you’re commissioning a system in the UK, chances are there’s a Danfoss ancillary involved.

Marstair

This UK manufacturer is commonly found in pubs and hospitality settings, and is well-known for cellar coolers and low temperature air conditioning split systems.

Tecumseh

International compressor and condensing unit manufacturer, often found in light commercial applications, offers compact, robust kit with a long track record.
